Overview

'Mel's Heritage' is a hybrid Wichurana rambler rose bred by Paul Barden in 2003 and introduced in 2011. It features small, very full, peachy-pink to copper blooms with a mild to strong apple fragrance. The flowers, averaging 2.5 inches in diameter, are produced in large clusters and bloom continuously throughout the growing season. The plant exhibits a vigorous, climbing habit with medium, glossy, dark green foliage, capable of reaching heights between 8 to 30 feet, depending on training and pruning. 'Mel's Heritage' thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, demonstrating excellent resistance to blackspot, mildew, and rust. Hardy in USDA zones 6 through 9, it is suitable for use as a climber, ground cover, or for screening purposes. This rose was named in honor of Mel Hulse, a former director of the San Jose Heritage Rose Garden, recognizing his significant contributions to rose preservation.
