Single blooms are velvety very dark burgundy red with prominent golden stamens. Definitely a once bloomer to consider finding space for. But, especially, this is a rose for all lovers of rose hips. I think Doctor Jackson may just have the most beautiful hips in all of rosedom. They are very large, pear shaped and the deep burgundy of a Seckel pear. Most are shiney and have a burnished orangey area on one side as though some doyenne of the garden had been about with a polishing cloth. Introduced in 1985.
