This is a diminuitive plant, staying two feet or under, with charming small, slightly cupped, lavender pink blooms on arching canes with the tiny, ferny foliage typical of the class. This is a plant to line a woodland garden path or to place at the front of the border with late spring bulbs and miniature iris. Dominie Sampson blooms early and has a bloom period of at least a month, which can double in cool weather. Some of the roses we have in the garden are just noteworthy as roses; this one is a great all season garden plant with maroon hips lasting through the winter. Unknown before 1848.
