Bred by Unknown Chinese Breeder(s) (China, before 1658). Discovered by Unknown (before 1733). Introduced in United Kingdom by Gilbert Slater in 1789 as ‘R. semperflorens’. Crimson. No fragrance. Medium to large, semi-double to double, reflexed bloom form. Glandular sepals buds. Short, bushy. Large, glossy, dark green foliage. 5 to 7 leaflets. Vigorous. Requires spring freeze protection. The ancestor of all our repeat-blooming Modern Garden Roses. Cherry red, rounded flowers on slender wood. Always in bloom. AKA R. Chinensis, Slater’s Crimson China
