Native along streams in China, grown for the enormous, elongated thorns on arching new canes which are translucent and red, stunning and beautiful, full of fire when backlit by the sun. Delicate ferny foliage. Flowers white with four petals, arrayed along the top of the branches like a dusting of snow. Small,delicious, juicy, hips. After plant is established remove several old canes annually to maintain vigor of bush and to insure new canes with firethorns. Very diffult to propagate. Often several years between successful batches. We now have a limited number of plants available in band pots only. Discovered in 1904.
