Dramatic color changes occur during the long summer to autumn blooming period; the bright crimson may sometimes change to cerise. The double, cupped fragrant flowers have 36 petals and appear as trusses on vigorous canes. There are usually 3-4 blooms at the ends of new shoots. Easy to grow from cuttings, it has a spreading habit and can easily reach 7 feet Small red prickles and dark foliage make it an ideal candidate to grow around a pillar. There is a lovely drawing of this rose by Alfred Parsonsin 'The Genus Rosa', the famous book produced by Ellen Willmott in the Edwardian years.
