This is a rose of unknown origin and while it has been grouped with the Gallicas it seems more likely that it is a hybrid, perhaps, as has been suggested, with R. macrantha. It makes a large shrub, or a climber to 10′. The effect is that of a superb wild rose. Unknown before 1800.
