We grow R. wichurana under evergreens where it trails along the ground and stays low. It is frequently requested as ground cover but can go twenty feet or more up a tree or over a structure. White flowers are large for a species, about an inch and a half across, and are bourne profusely over several weeks late in the season above the very healthy, dark glossy green foliage for which it is well known. The evergreen small round leaves, in sets of nine, are perfect foils for the crop of red hips and sprinkling of rebloom. This is the parent plant of the famed Wichurana Ramblers made famous by Barbier. Alberic Barbier and La Perle are just two Wichurana descendants at RVR. The tribe of New Dawn ramblers also is descended from R. Wichurana. Discovered in 1891.
